Human bodies struggle to fight HIV because of the virus's incredible ability to mutate and change its appearance. After years of infection, a small number of patients develop powerful weapons called ‘broadly neutralising antibodies’ that attack something fundamental to HIV and can kill large swathes of HIV strains. Researchers have been working to use these broadly neutralising antibodies as a way to treat HIV, or prevent infection in the first place. In this collaboration, three such antibodies were combined into an even more powerful ‘tri-specific antibody.’ Experiments on 24 monkeys showed that none of those given the tri-specific antibody developed an infection when they were later injected with the virus. Clinical trials to test the antibody on humans will start next year. YOUR HEALTHY BRAIN DON’T STAND TOO LONG There’s been a lot of interest in the harmful effects of prolonged sitting at work. However, comparatively little attention has been devoted to the harmful effects of prolonged standing. Research has shown that prolonged standing might increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, because standing too long can result in blood pooling in the legs, increased pressure in the veins and increased oxidative stress - all of which can contribute to the increased risk. The incidence of heart disease among those respondents who stood a lot at work (6.6 %) was similar to the incidence of heart disease among workers who smoked on a daily basis (5.8%) or those who were obese (6.9 %). การยืนทางานเป็นเวลานานๆ จะทาให้เกิด อาการปวดหลังเรื้อรังและความผิดปกติ ทางระบบโครงร่างและกล้ามเนื้อ (MSDs) ในร่างกายส่วนล่าง รวมถึงความเสี่ยงในการเป็น โรคหัวใจและหลอดเลือดอีก เพราะการยืนนานๆ ทาให้เกิดเลือดหมุนเวียนตกค้างในเส้นเลือดที่ขา ความดันโลหิตขึ้นสูง และเกิดสภาวะเครียด ออกซิเดชั่น คนที่ยืนทางานนานๆ ยังมีโอกาส เป็นโรคหัวใจ 6.6% เท่าๆ กับคนที่สูบบุหรี่ เป็นประจา (5.8%) และคนที่เป็นโรคอ้วน (6.9%) ด้วย / ISSUE_13 16 YOUR HEALTHY SOUL Lastest shopping guide Minding your health has never been easier with modern technology to help, but it gets a ‘cool’ and ‘smart’ edge with these innovative healthcare products. (2) The at ease ambience that could simply unwind every soul. A highly enjoyable way to spend quality time with family or friends can be as simple as dining well in a relaxing environment, savouring the flavours of dishes made with heart and letting completely go of stress. Within a touristy section of Bangkok stands an incredible haven to disappear into, away the surrounding helter-skelter – The Raweekanlaya Bangkok Wellness Cuisine Resort, the lovely home to our dining destination, The Raweekanlaya Dining. The Raweekanlaya Dining The Raweekanlaya Bangkok Wellness Cuisine Resort, Krung Kasem Road, Bangkhunprom, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok T: +66 (0) 2 628 5999 Renovated from an old wood house, painted in delicate ashy green and white, and surrounded by a lush garden, this all-day restaurant catches the eye with its calm ambience. It’s decorated in contemporary Thai style, walls adorned with paintings and china, and furniture in the same colour palette of the house. The restaurant is charming and woos all the senses – sight, sound, taste, touch, smell – as well as being a comfortable place for relaxation. Both traditional Thai and Western dishes are prepared meticulously from fine organic ingredients – such as brown rice, sea salt and fresh seasonal produce – chosen for both health and taste. How fresh? – using their ‘You Pick, We Cook’ concept, diners can pick the ingredients of their choice from the nearby organic garden for use in their dishes! Supporting the local community is one of the restaurant's philosophies, and they source most of their produce and products from small-scale farmers. With reference to the history of the house, which was originally built in the reign of King Rama VI, most of the dishes have been inspired by very traditional recipes – both Asian and Western. Some Thai examples are: mouth-watering ‘Mah Hor’ which is aromatic stirred-fried pork on sweet pineapple; crispy rice cake with chicken and shrimp sauce; sea bass wrapped in leaves and topped with special sauce. One of the highly recommended dishes is ‘Yum Yhai’, a Thai-style spicy salad generously filled with shrimp, pork, chicken, boiled eggs and fresh vegetables, seasoned with a special dressing with egg yolk. The homemade northern dish ‘Khao Soi Kai’, or egg noodle curry soup with chicken, is also a must-try. If the spices of southern Thai food attract you more, the spicy rice salad with Budu sauce served with seafood is also very delicious. If you need a place to unwind and eat for your mind, body and soul, come to The Raweekanlaya Dining – it may well become your new favourite place. 2 1 A DAY OF DINING WELLNext >
