In general the driving force of such a small social cell tends to be the lady of the house and, hence, it would not be an overclaim to say that it is the soft power of women that drives civilization. Hillary Clinton once attested to this when she said: ‘Nations that invest in women’s employment, health and education are just more likely to have better outcomes. Their children will be healthier and better educated… So this is not just the right thing to do for us to hole up these women, to support them, to encourage their involvement; this is a strategic imperative.’ This issue of Health Brings Wealth celebrates Thai Mother’s Day and is thus dedicated to supporting and sustaining the health and wellness of women in all age groups, in appreciation for their tireless devotion to their families, current and future. DR. The artificial and intelligent internet-connected incubator resembles a pod and has a clear, curved lid so that loving parents can scrutinize every moment of the foetus’s growth. To mimic the intimacy of carrying your own baby, there’s a portable care bag that can be slung over the shoulder and simulates a baby’s kicks. To enhance the bonding experience, when parents gently rock the portable bag the connected pod will simulate the same movement. There’s also a feeding device attached to the incubator which will deliver the precise mix of nutrients that have been freshly prepared at home. There’s even a communication device so that parents can coo soothing words to their baby. YOUR HEALTHY BRAIN SLEEP TO REMEMBER Researchers from Washington University have found that prolonged periods of poor sleep increase levels of proteins, amyloid and tau, which are connected with Alzheimer’s disease. The study involved a group of healthy participants, aged between 35 and 65 years, undertaking sleep experiments at home and at the lab. The findings suggest that repeated disruption of slow wave (deep) sleep can lead to a build-up of amyloid and tau, which increases the risk of plaque and tangles forming in the brain, eventually leading to an increase in the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The brand-new Soba Factory restaurant, situated in Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park Hotel, will certainly fulfill your gastronomic desires. Soba Factory is an elegant eatery with contemporary Japanese décor and an open-view kitchen that adds culinary theatre to your dining experience. It has recruited celebrated noodle expert Mizuho Nagao as Executive Chef, and diners can watch him and his team at work creating Japanese delicacies using tantalizing ingredients and time- honoured cooking techniques. The soba noodles are made in-house, of course, following traditional recipes. The high-quality buckwheat flour used is sourced directly from Hokkaido and not only does it have a distinctive nutty taste but is full of nutrients, low in calories and packed with protein, thus making soba noodles the perfect choice for any health-conscious foodies. You can enjoy the house soba noodles either hot or cold. The most popular soba dishes are Tempura Seiro Soba served with lightly battered, crispy prawns and vegetables (THB 455), Kamo Namban Soba in a mouth-watering broth served with sliced duck (THB 445), and classic Seiro Soba (THB 290). Apart from soba noodles, diners can also enjoy the scrumptious Yakitori Mori skewer platter served with organic raw Soba Factory Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park 199 Sukhumvit Soi 22, Klongtoey, Bangkok 10110 T: +66(0)2 059 5555 W: bangkokmarriottmarquis.com egg yolk (THB 610) or Burikama, a salt-grilled Yellowtail fish collar with crispy skin and buttery flesh (THB 390). Vegetarians will fall in love with the soft and silky homemade tofu dish named Jikasei Tofu (THB 300) and the variety of tasty salads on the menu. Soba Factory is, as far as we know, the only Japanese restaurant that serves Sobayu as an after-meal drink. Sobayu is the water in which soba noodles are boiled, making it rich in nutrients, and Japanese like to mix it with a little sauce before drinking it like tea. It’s the perfect wrap-up to a Japanese meal, but those with a sweet tooth can also opt for the rice house-made ice cream (THB 160) or the Matcha Shiratama Shiruko which is sticky soft mochi in a matcha sauce (THB 180). For outstanding Japanese dishes to appease your appetite in a contemporary setting, plus live kitchen action to please your eyes, head to Soba Factory either for lunch from 12-2.30pm or for dinner from 5.30-10pm 3 1 245 SAVVY ABOUT SOBANext >
