MEW: As well as an actor, singer, model and someone who writes songs, I’m also currently pursuing a PhD! If I were to choose which aspect I’m most passionate about in entertainment however, it would undoubtedly be acting and this year I’m dedicating my focus to my acting career. However, I also have a strong affinity for studying and if I had the free time I would gladly return to full-time studies. As an actor, which characters did you enjoy portraying the most? MEW: Oh, that's a tough one to answer because I intentionally take on diverse roles to challenge myself and so I enjoy the variety of characters I get to portray. I’d say that I truly appreciate every character I’ve taken on. Right now, I'm particularly interested in a new character for a project scheduled to be filmed soon and am studying their biography. But I can't reveal any details just yet! MEET THE REAL MEW48 THE SPOTLIGHT With such a packed work schedule, what is your favourite hobby when you have free time? MEW: Whenever I have the chance, I really love to go travelling. When I go through a period of tireless work I can get drained. Being able to travel, whether it's discovering new cultures, staying at different hotels, exploring new environments or trying out new cuisines really refreshes me, sparks my creativity and inspires me. Where did you go on your most recent trip and what were the highlights? MEW: I recently went to America for three weeks. I flew into New York and then made my way to Cuba before returning via Miami, Las Vegas and Philadelphia. The highlight was Cuba! It's a communist country where the government controls all aspects of the peoples’ lives, including culture and technology, and I had the impression of stepping back in time 30-40 years. The cars there are vintage, and the internet connection is quite limited. We had to buy internet cards like we used to do years ago here to top-up internet access and the internet speed was so slow, I avoided using it. This allowed me to be more present in the moment though. The food in Cuba was absolutely delicious and the architecture was fascinating, blending Western and local styles. What is Cuban cuisine like? MEW: It’s typical in Cuba to use sea salt generously, which results in a lingering sharp taste of every dish. But I’d like to talk about a Cuban drink instead. Did you know that Cuba is the birthplace of the famous Mojito cocktail? During my trip I had the chance to try a Mojito at the restaurant in Cuba where it was first created! They used a whole fresh mint leaf and pounded it right in the glass, unlike the usual practice elsewhere of chopping it finely beforehand. That was different and interesting to see. The original pounding technique really added to the flavour of my drink. If you could pick one place to visit again, where would it be? MEW: There are so many places I want to visit again, it’s difficult to choose! After the Covid situation improved I had the opportunity to travel abroad and reconnect with my fans in various countries, and would love to go back to do that all over again. However, if I had to choose just one country to revisit, it would be a place which I haven't gone back to for a long time, Switzerland. I absolutely love the weather and the overall atmosphere there. I feel that whenever we revisit a country or place, we gain new experiences that change our feelings and perspectives over time. That as we grow older and witness different things, we can see the same place from a fresh, perhaps deeper, viewpoint. What activities do you enjoy the most when you travel? MEW: I enjoy a variety of activities and it also depends on the people I travel with. During a recent trip to France for work with Oab, who loves shopping, we went on a shopping spree. When I'm with friends, we often look for thrilling adventures like mountain hiking. However, when I'm travelling alone my first destination of choice is usually a museum, especially the national museum of that country. During a fan meeting trip to Indonesia I had a day off and explored their national museum to delve into their rich history and culture. Similarly, when I have free days in New York I make it a point to visit art galleries and museums to stay updated on the art scene and current trends. I believe that art and history are interconnected, as art reflects the society and history of its time. As I grow older, I find myself increasingly passionate about art and history, although I can't quite explain why (Mew laughed).49Next >
