It features an outside zone where guests can enjoy the daytime sea breeze while sipping on one of the thirst- quenching drinks from the menu, and later on watch a colourful sunset with cocktail in hand. The main building, which was built to contour with the hills, is the ideal spot for a peaceful coffee and chat at one of the window viewpoints or hammocks. The most spectacular seat in the house, beyond a doubt, is the suspended net where you’ll feel as if you’re the only person around and that the sunrays and waves are washing over you. KOH SAMUI On the island of Koh Samui, every traveller will find something to smile about. And with something fresh each visit, it’s no wonder that they keep coming from all over the world to enjoy this tropical paradise. Adventurers and sight-seeing enthusiasts will enjoy the thrill of trekking to one of the island’s famous viewpoints or waterfalls. And with its wealth of cultural attractions, visitors will find their creative juices stimulated by the local art scene, and peace of mind in the Buddhist way at temples. There is always something to delight in on Koh Samui, with much still to be discovered and more to come!BANGKOK AIRWAYS BOUTIQUE JOURNEYS 2023-2024 | 13 OVERLAP STONE Expect a sight of vast blue sky mirroring the Gulf of Thailand’s deep waters, the golden sand of Lamai Beach in the distance and palm trees marking the island’s coastline, waving steadily in the light breeze. Clamber the eight metres up to the top of the Overlap Stone and you’ll feel the bright energy of tropical nature envelop you in a warm hug. With its unparalleled view of Koh Samui, this is an assured highlight of your trip to Samui. BAAN SUAN LUNG KHAI This heaven for seafood-lovers is waiting to be discovered down a hidden lane of Koh Samui and is set against a backdrop of swaying palm trees and the tranquil hum of a living forest. Baan Suan Lung Khai offers four menu choices which come with coconut rice that is wonderfully aromatic and complements every dish. It’s a must here to make an advance reservation.14 | BANGKOK AIRWAYS BOUTIQUE JOURNEYS 2023-2024 BAAN SUAN LANG SARD The experience of going to eat at this restaurant will sit high on the list of must- dos for those who have an affinity for delicious seafood as well as for adventure. The journey here is not for the faint of heart; it will take you to the top of hills with fleeting views of the island and then swoop you downward toward the shaded jungles. Upon arriving at Baan Suan Lang Sard, however, the gentle hum of the forest will become the peaceful soundtrack for the rest of your visit. Every dish here is tasty, freshly-cooked with fresh local ingredients, and is served with their special coconut rice. Highlights include Yellow Curry served with Crab and Egg Noodle Rolls, and King River Prawn served with seafood sauce. Take note that meals must be pre- ordered 24 hours in advance. KHAO HOM One of the best ways to learn about a local culture is to try what the locals eat. Khao Hom is one of their favourite restaurants and it’s clear the food is the star here, as it’s roadside with not much décor or sea view. You’ll know how seriously they take their cooking by the well-equipped kitchen and how well-coordinated the kitchen crew and runners are in delivering plates of perfectly-cooked food in a timely manner. Some highlights are the stir-fried pork with shrimp paste, stir-fried squid and shrimp with curry paste, stir-fried cabbage with fish sauce, and bai liang pad kai (melinjo leaves stir-fried with egg), all served with steamed white rice. KOH SAMUIBANGKOK AIRWAYS BOUTIQUE JOURNEYS 2023-2024 | 15 THE NATURE SAMUI The Nature Samui sits serenely in a wood surrounded by flora, most of which are edible. The Lotus Leaf Wraps are renowned because of the beauty of the dish: a tray of delicate pink lotus leaves brimming with a curious medley of ingredients that will, with a single bite, deliver an explosion of flavours in the mouth. The Southern Spicy Rice Salad with Vegetables, with assorted edible flowers, is a colourful dish that is light and refreshing to eat. To order a Pad Thai may seem passé, but you need to try this version with the freshest, crisp bean sprouts. It’s no surprise why so many people find their way to this secluded restaurant, and return, even though its out of the way. PREGO SAMUI Prego, located on Chaweng Beach Road across Amari Koh Samui, is a highly- esteemed Italian restaurant on the island that provides a welcoming and family- friendly atmosphere. You may choose to sit inside where plenty of light enters from the ceiling and there is air-conditioning, or sit on the veranda to enjoy the sea breeze and sounds of the ocean. Dinners at Prego are spoilt for choice with Chef Piero’s menu as well as the drinks list of Italian wines and signature cocktails. The Burrata Fresca, fresh burrata cheese served on marinated tomatoes, will make an excellent opener. Prego offers delicious wood-fired pizzas and many seafood dishes, but don’t forget to try Chef Piero’s specialty of home-made potato gnocchi cooked in basil pesto and topped with gorgonzola cheese – you will be left salivating for more. Every meal should end with a dessert, and you’ll likely agree that Chef’s Tiramisu will outshine any other that you’ve had. FISHHOUSE RESTAURANT & BAR A perfect seaside meal needs the successful combination of two factors; great food and a good view. FishHouse Restaurant & Bar provides both in cosy beach house-style, with breezes flowing gently throughout the place. The menu here is a cut above the rest. You will not find any pizzas on it but instead, seafood towers, lobster rolls, fish tacos, imported prime steaks and a paella like no other. Ordering paella on a tropical island may not seem to be a good idea until you take the first bite. The well-seasoned Black Paella has the perfect rice texture, some ooze from cheese and a generous amount of well-cooked squid, all made the more heavenly with a squeeze of lemon juice. It’s definitely not to be missed. KOH SAMUIBANGKOK AIRWAYS BOUTIQUE JOURNEYS 2023-2024 | 17 THE KITCHEN TABLE AT W KOH SAMUI The Kitchen Table - W Koh Samui offers one of Samui’s premier culinary experiences. Chef Manoj and his team take the distinctive flavours of Thai cuisine and add their own spin to them to serve dishes that are inventive, daring and still mouth- watering. There are also tempting seafood choices here including the best Canadian lobster, Alaskan king crab, tiger prawns, Hokkaido scallops, mussels, soft-shell crab and seabass. For seating you can choose to dine on the luxurious patio and soak in the seemingly endless panorama, or else in the main room with its calm ambience.18 | BANGKOK AIRWAYS BOUTIQUE JOURNEYS 2023-2024 SA-NGA Sa-Nga has an original take on Thai cuisine which it serves in tapas portions, offering something new, inventive and very tasty. Located on the grounds of Centara Reserve Samui, the interior signals how unique the restaurant is with a modernist ceiling, big windows that look out on the big lawns and lovely Chaweng Beach, and dining room in soft natural colours. The Tom Yum Cappuccino, which is served with tiger prawn and young coconut, makes a dazzling appetizer to wake up the palate. The Wagyu Beef Salad is an irresistible mix of tender Wagyu beef perfectly complimented by spicy Nam Jim Jaew sauce and the fresh crispness of cucumber and spring onion. Highly recommend trying Sa-Nga’s original take on the Mango Sticky Rice to wrap up your meal, which by itself makes Sa-Nga worth the visit!
